Our PhilosophyLumity applauds those in the nonprofit community for acting upon their desire to serve those in need. This commitment, unfortunately, often has few supporting resources, creating in many organizations and individuals a “just do it” attitude that places all value on the delivery of service and little on analysis that can improve the overall organizationand the effectiveness of the services these dedicated individuals provide. Organizational development efforts can, faced with scarce resources and clients in need, appear as a luxury that siphons precious time and energy from client-facing activities.
Many nonprofit workers also tend to see their efforts as the product of personal commitment and experience that, when measured by tools of organizational performance, calls into question the individual’s dedication to the sector and appears punitive. In many ways, the most dedicated nonprofit workers are often the ones most reluctant to engage in efforts to improve overall performance of the organization.
Lumity works to educate both the nonprofit sector and its supporters that the tools of organizational capacity so effective in the for-profit world can be used to increase the effectiveness of nonprofit missionsbe they day care providers, organizations that help people find jobs, advocacy groups, and more. We work to ensure their capacity of charitable organizations can be increasednot to change their culture or make them “corporate,” but to give them the tools, confidence, and best practice models to fulfill their missions more effectively. As a catalyst for this change, Lumity’s goal is simple: to allow nonprofits and their dedicated staff to do more good work.
